Heatwave Lacrosse Tournament

HEATWAVE 2020 HAS BEEN CANCELED

All players are required to self roster prior to the event. 

Please be sure to have your jersey number and US Lacrosse number available when rostering. Additionally, high school players should have their GPA, ACT and SAT scores.

Teams must check-in at least 1-hour prior to each team’s first game

All waivers must match your roster. (ENFORCED!) USL memberships for players are required. (ENFORCED!) All Waivers must include a valid US Lacrosse number

Players who do not have a valid USL membership MUST join in order to participate.

All divisions will be modified for six field players and a GK (See 7 v 7 Rules below).

Adult division will used 2019-20 womens NCAA rules. 

High School divisions will use USL 2020 rules.

Middle School division will use USL 14U rules.

Youth division will use USL 10U rules.

It will be at the game officials discretion to determine the suitability of player equipment including the wearing of orthopedic cast or hard brace. Mouth guards and eye protection are mandatory, per USL rules. Coaches must certify their team’s equipment prior to the tournament.

Schedule may be modified if necessary due to inclement weather or poor field conditions.

Clear all fields due to hazardous conditions. Teams should report to their cars, or under cover off of the playing fields if lightning causes a stoppage in play. All fields will be cleared. Game-lengths may be modified if make up games are deemed necessary. Play will resume following one long, loud blast by the air horn.

All coaches have total responsibility for the conduct of their players, substitutes, friends, and spectators at all times. Coaching from the sideline (giving direction to one’s own team on points of strategy and position) is permitted, provided:

  • The tone of voice is instructive and not derogatory.
  • Each coach or substitute remains on their half of the between the substitution area and the restraining line.
  • No coach, substitute, or spectator makes derogatory remarks or gestures to the umpires, other coaches, players, substitutes, or spectators;
  • No coach, substitute, or spectator uses profanity or incites, in any manner, disruptive behavior.
  • Both teams and coaches shake hands after games. Violations of these policies will prevent coaches from actively coaching their teams and will be reviewed by the Tournament Director and the Sportsmanship Committee of the Tournament.

A player or coach receiving two yellow cards in a single game will be ejected from the game by the game officials, if these violations are proven to be flagrant, the player or coach will be expelled the tournament. Ejections are determined by the game officials, expulsion by the tournament directors. Those receiving Red Cards will be reviewed for immediate ejection from the event.

All disputes will be settled by the Tournament Directors or his/her designee and the decision will be final.

Round Robin 7-v-7 TEAM SCORING:

Win = 5 Points

Tie = 3 Points

Loss = 0 Points

Tie Breaker: 1) 3-v-3 and Braveheart Points (see Below). 2) Goal Differential against next highest rated opponents. 3) Draw Straws.

7-v-7 Tournament Procedures:

After Round Robin Play, the Teams will be seeded for Tournament Play in a single-elimination tournament. Seeding is determined by Win, and Tie points across the event. Any tie situations will be worked out using tie-breaker points accumulated from the 3-v-3 and Braveheart tournaments (see below). Games ending in ties will stand as tie games, earning each team 3 points.

7-v-7 Rules:

  • 6 Field Players 1 Goalie
  • 12 MIN RUNNING CLOCK
  • 3 MIN HALF TIME
  • 3 MIN WARM-UP
  • FIRST HALF STARTS WITH DRAW; 2ND HALF LOSING TEAM AWARDED POSSESSION
  • QUICK CLEARS AFTER ALL GOALS – CATCH YOUR OPPONENT CELEBRATING!
  • EACH TEAM PERMITTED ONE :30 TIMEOUT PER GAME
  • NO TIMEOUTS IN FINAL 2-MINUTES OF HALF OR GAME
  • SCORE KEPT BY SIDELINE SCOREKEEPERS – SCORES ARE FINAL
  • TIME KEPT ON CENTRAL HORN
  • SUBS ON THE FLY PERMITTED
  • Games and Halves may not end on a Defensive penalty or penalty set-up inside the CSA (major or minor). Please set up the foul and add three seconds to the clock. As scoring is used as a tie-breaker, even if the game has been decided (more than one goal difference) we will set up the free position. During the 3-seconds, regular game rules exist, including the potential for another defensive foul, passes, a shot, or a goal.
  • Goalies may play on multiple teams or multiple clubs in the same age division.
  • 3 field players and 1 goalkeeper
  • First Goal Wins
  • Players must be selected from the SAME TEAM
  • Each 7-v-7 team entered is permitted ONE ‘Iron Woman’ teams
  • GK must be from the same team
  • Game begins with a DRAW
  • Game ends on first goal
  • No substitutions are permitted
  • In the event of injury or yellow cards, teams must play with only 2 field players
  • Goalies may not go beyond midfield and may not shoot
  • GK cannot leave the 8-meter goal area to ADVANCE the ball up the field. Ground balls outside of the goal are permitted, however they must not advance the ball up field in a meaningful way. If they are being chased they can avoid the check, but they need to move the ball and not become an additional field player offensively.
  • No timeouts are permitted
  • All teams are required to participate in the 3 v 3 and Braveheart competitions.  They will begin at 12:00 pm.
  • First Goal Wins
  • One Player from each team may be selected. That player may NOT have participated on the 3 v 3 team.
  • Game begins with a DRAW
  • Game ends on first goal
  • No substitutions are permitted
  • In the event of a yellow card, the opposing player is declared the victor -automatically
  • If a player becomes injured as a result of normal play, the opposing -player is declared the victor automatically
  • Goalies may not go beyond midfield and may not shoot
  • GK cannot leave the 8-meter goal area to ADVANCE the ball up the field. Ground balls outside of the goal are permitted, however they must not advance the ball up field in a meaningful way. If they are being chased they can avoid the check, but they need to move the ball and not become an additional field player offensively.

No timeouts are permitted
