On Sunday, October 13th, tri-state area girl’s lacrosse clubs came together to play and raise money at the 9th Annual Play To Win Tournament. Between tournament fees, t-shirt sales (sold out this year), donations and gifts approximately $10,000 was raised to benefit the Play for Pay Foundation. Play for Pay is an organization that raises money to provide gifts and electronic devices to children with life threatening illnesses confined to beds in the hospital. The mission of Chris Raichle, T3 Shore Lacrosse Director, was to create a charity to help make the lives of these children just a little more bearable. For Chris, this charity is near and dear to his heart. His daughter, Payton Raichle, was diagnosed with epilepsy at a young age and went through many brain surgeries and extensive hospital stays in the ICU.
“I knew there was a need for something like this when I saw all of the children in the hospital with Payton, but I never dreamed that years later this tournament would grow into something so fulfilling for everyone. I really believe that if given the right platform, young players really get excited about helping others,” said Chris.
Congratulations to our tournament winners, 5th/6th: Jersey Thunders Lacrosse Club, 7th/8th: Dragons and High School: Two Rivers!
Play for Payton raises money to help children and families cope with the emotional, physical, and financial tolls taken when enduring such a serious illness. Through the funds raised, we visit intensive care units to spread happiness to these children. Foundation website: www.playforpayton.com
